Congratulations to Judy Bowen from Waikato Area Jumping & Eventing who is our deserving ESNZ Volunteer of the Month for February 2020!
ESNZ Jumping Sport Manager, Marilyn Thompson, nominated Judy because of the enormous contribution she makes to developing stewards for jumping. As we know, there’s no show without stewards and Judy plays a significant role in developing the high calibre stewards we are so lucky to have.
Judy says she has volunteered for “a very long time”, around 12 to 15 years. She is motivated to give so generously of her time and expertise because she is passionate about the welfare of the horse and educating people. She also sees this as a way of giving to the sport that gave her so much in the past.
Judy’s passion for education and horse welfare sees her consistently recruiting new stewards, mentoring them and supporting them to grow through the ranks to FEI levels. She works with people at all levels from pre-candidate to FEI levels and would love to see more people interested in becoming stewards throughout the country.
Thank you so much Judy for your commitment and invaluable service to jumping and for the countless hours of work you do. Your contribution ensures the future viability and ongoing success of the sport.
Our sport is in safe hands with Judy and our other wonderful volunteers like her who quietly go about the business of sustaining the sport and maintaining the high standards which create a pathway from novice to the Olympics. Next time you are so lucky to be on the receiving end of our volunteers’ generosity, please take a moment to thank them.
ESNZ Volunteer of the Month receives a gift in recognition of their contribution; Judy’s is on its way to her.
